Today, on 26.11.2018 Ex HC Judge Justice J P Deodhar from NGT visited Ambernath dumping ground and gave strict instructions to Ambernath Municipal Council. You must have already received messages on this on whatsapp.

But, many of us may not be aware of the term NGT. This is just for reference :-

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has been established on 18.10.2010 under the National Green Tribunal Act 2010 for effective and expeditious disposal of cases relating to environmental protection and conservation of forests and other natural resources including enforcement of any legal right relating to environment and giving relief and compensation for damages to persons and property and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. It is a specialized body equipped with the necessary expertise to handle environmental disputes involving multi-disciplinary issues. The Tribunal shall not be bound by the procedure laid down under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, but shall be guided by principles of natural justice.

The Tribunal's dedicated jurisdiction in environmental matters shall provide speedy environmental justice and help reduce the burden of litigation in the higher courts. The Tribunal is mandated to make and endeavour for disposal of applications or appeals finally within 6 months of filing of the same. Initially, the NGT is proposed to be set up at five places of sittings and will follow circuit procedure for making itself more accessible. New Delhi is the Principal Place of Sitting of the Tribunal and Bhopal, Pune, Kolkata and Chennai shall be the other four place of sitting of the Tribunal.

Now, earlier this year :-

"After facing lot of embarrassment before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and Supreme Court for lax enforcement of Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, the State Government has formed a high-level panel to oversee efficient Municipal Solid Waste Management. This panel has to interact with all urban local bodies every two weeks and keep a strict vigil towards waste management effort".

Alternatively citizens can post grievances in :-

(you need to have mobile number and email id to first sign up)

It is great that head of west panel visited Ambernath today and have instructed AMC to take action but I suggest, side by side we should keep updating status of dumping ground in all above mentioned contact details. There is no harm in writing or posting grievance once a week. Even government authorities will be able to track exact situation of the dumping ground. I request members to spare 10 minutes in one week and either :-
1. Write letter & attach print out of photos & send to Pune & Delhi address
or
2. submit grievance online in the link mentioned above
or
3. Send email to the above mentioned 3 email ids

Writing physical letter is most effective followed by online grievance submission & then followed by emails.

Please take out some time. This is just the start we should keep following up.
